|
An accident while trying to save his buddy's life, has left Jake Smith unable to talk due to tongue
loss, and he soon comes to find that seizures are a permanent part of his life now, as well as lost-spells, and loss of reading
comprehension. His twin sister seeks to draw him back into a functioning life, as she fears she will lose him further.
She must first find a way for him to communicate, as she is yet unaware of his loss of comprehension. This novel
leads us through his injuries, getting his life back in order, and how his buddies face the situation, and finally up to how
he will accept this new and different man that he has become--seemingly over night. And--it
was no 'accident', they all soon come to find.

Jake seeks to court a gal for marraige, while learning how to face being a mute man in a talking
world, and letting her witness his life with seizures, in the pro-cess,and continually works at accepting himself. It proves
to just as hard as he figured--and more so. His bride to be, learns that she fits in as part of Jake's gang, but
this is the least of her concerns, as even more begin to play out before her--ending with a near disasterous honeymoon.

Jake faces Texas, displaying his new-self to buddies that have yet to learn of his accident.
He tries to face it alone, with Stoney as interpretor, which backfires. He continues with his goals, though,
and finds a surpirse piece of his mother's life, that proves even deeper to him, that his life is in the hands of Someone
much greater than he. Leading onward, Jake becomes a beloved 'uncle' to one of his buddy's son, a son that faces some
hard facts of his own about his 'Uncle' Jake's muteness.

the 'second gate' and their time of passing on has come.. Jake nearly died forty years back, playing 'hero'

THE REASONS BEHIND THE STORY:
WHO: Who am I, Neebeeshaabookway?
Please see my biography, located below, on the left hand side of the page:
WHAT: What inspired this story? Some real life twins (girls) encouraged
me to write a story, and a real-life cowboy actor inspired my heart, AND every one and every thing that's crossed
my path, in life-inspired situations--how be it, none of the situations are taken from anyone's life, and none of the
characters are based on true people, they are all from me, as I worked through my character's progression, and
his story-weave. However, once I heard the THUD of my step-grandbaby falling off the sofa from a safe place
of sitting, and turned to see her on the floor as a rigid 'teddy-bear' shaking stiffly with staring blank eyes, and then go
to appearing half-dead-looking, I have never been able to take this lightly in my quest to do her good--so this has
worked into being a huge part of my desire to push these stories. First for awareness into how important true friendhship
and team work is when a person "goes down", and second for awareness into epilepsy, and third, for as many donations as possible.
WHERE: Where will the royalties go? My original hope was to choose
from: head injury, epilepsy, perhaps bull-riding family-aid for kids whose fathers have head injuries, and to help American
Indian children have better food--but no one has been interested now, as the books are too new, and do not make enough money--so
the royalties are gladly received by: LOVE INC, FOR THE FOOD BANK, in MICH. *see the jj-ns.read-jake-and-donate.com,

WHEN: When did I start the first novel? It was January
2004--each one took about three months, and then came the corrections. The short stories were started after the conclusion,
about maybe around Oct. 2005 ???
WHY: Why has it taken so long to find a publisher? Every puslisher
and agent that I have found, have said that these stories are not what they are looking for. Now, I have found:
Lulu.com. Why do I not keep some funds for myself, for my financial gain? I can not push to take someones money
for my own cause, as there was too much inspiration for the God's help, to my heart-felt feelings--yet, I can push for the
cause of something that I believe can open doors to help others that are facing a mighty uneasy walk. The head (our
brain) speaks to our whole body, and if the wires are crossed or not in proper working order electrically-wise, our body has
no choice but to follow anyway... and sometimes the only way it can follow, can leave one completely lost and exausted
(such as from a seizure). How wonderful if one can help others feel refreshed and whole again (is possible,
with epilepsy), even if in only a small way (as with head injuries, some head may never fully heal).
HOW: How long will I push for success here, and on the street with flyers,
as well? As long as the good Lord helps me to do so! People never stop to think that their life can change in
an instant--we are not God, we break-down, or break-apart--we need loving friends and families that care to reach-out, and
offer open doors to success, and joy in the midst of sorrows.
WHICH: Which is better, a publisher, or self-publish? I do not know,
we shall see--but--pulishers do know how to push for sales, and I have to push, alone. I still will NOT give
up my dream to have the whole series and short story volulmes published (*note--it is now being published with LULU.COM).
I would like to see them in the hands of folks that can read them over-and-over, and to their families, for years to come.

~ BIO FOR NEEBEESHAABOOKWAY ~
Neebeeshaabookway,(Liz Gonzalez), was born in Garfield Heights, Ohio, and grew up in San Jose, California. She remembers the orchards, before “Silicon Valley” emerged. As
a young girl she was always in contact with the outdoor world, including the Santa Cruz coastline, and various nearby areas, such as Mount Madonna, even reaching farther to Yosemite National Park. She still has family in San Jose, six siblings, and her two elderly parents.
She spent
her next years, after high school, married, in the South Texas “Tip of Tex” city of Harlingen, and was there for twenty-five years. Here she enjoyed the Mexican culture
as her children grew in the midst of their heritage, and here she enjoyed the great outdoors of mesquite, arroyos, chachalacas,
and the Texas coast, of South Padre Island and Port Isabel, and many shopping days, across the border.
Her first
unpublished novel, Jake (‘I’m thinkin’…’), placed
in the semi-finals of the William Faulkner Creative Writing Competition, in her first contest.
She has two unpublished sequels to it: Jake and Sofia, and, Jake Hugs Texas, and its conclusion, Jake’s Ranch And
The Second Gate. Being a first time writer, these books encompass all her loves,
plus things that have crossed her path, and touched her life in many intriguing ways.
Things that have included: Fishing, horses, canoeing, swimming, gardening,
old-time westerns, self taught spoon-playing, self taught dancing (Cumbia dancing, Tejano dancing, Belly dancing, Tahitian
dancing, Flamenco dancing), self taught American Sign Language to speak to her closest friends, and many other unique experiences
with all kinds of people, all kinds of ages, and many a twin. At one time she
was teaching herself to read a large variety of foreign languages, but had to give it up, when she divorced. She has a special talent towards folks, in an easy-going way.
She
has left her beloved Texas
and children behind, because of this divorce, and now lives in Michigan, with two cats, in a tiny rented house full of her
own handmade dream-catchers, that she makes for her friends. She is the mother
of four children, and now has eight grandchildren, two through non-family members. She
is now hoping to come out of seven years of hardship, and is waiting to see what may bloom in the years to come. As she always says, “the good Lord, He knows the way we must take… He goes on ahead to make
it smooth, until it’s our turn to follow. The hard part… is when the roads are all closed.”
